Illumination - 'The act or process of lighting up; giving spiritual or intellectual light to; shedding light or lustre upon. Decorating or making bright with light or colour'
Interpret the them in any way you wish in a quilt which must measure 65cm high x 75cm wide.
You may be literal or abstract; traditional or innovative, and use any technique you consider appropriate as long as it meets the other challenge rules.
Entries must be predominantly fabric and made up of three layers; a top, batting and backing and must be machine or hand quilted by the entrant(s) all of whom must be NANZQ members. Embellishments must not extend beyond the size limit.
All entries must be for sale.
Entry is open to financial members of NANZQ from 1 May 2008 - 30 April 2010. Entry fee is $35.00.
20 quilts will be selected and travel to galleries within NZ for approximately 12 monhs.
Entries close on 1 May 2009 and the challenge will open in Christchurch on 5 June 2009.
Prizes will be awarded for Best and Merit Tradtional, Best and Merit Innovative and Rookie.
Traditional; a pattern or design with an established history in the quilting tradition.
Innovative; a design with fundamental deviation from traditional patterns and sets, reflecting growth through tradition.
Rookie; a quilter who has not previously had work accepted at any NZ national exhibition or challenge.

Elemental - air, fire, earth, water.
The challenge was to interpret one or all of the elements in a quilt 1.5m long by 0.5m wide.
‘NANZQ Quilts Aotearoa’ Exhibition is held annually in conjunction with the Craft & Quilt Fair at the Events Centre, Claudelands Road, Hamilton. The 2008 show will be held from the 18 -21 September.
