Margaret realised early on in her life that 'Collecting" was an important resource for all areas of art. It forms a basis of our visual vocabulary. There begins the marvellously rewarding exercises of linkages & connections. Artists will always respond to the images or objects around them.
Shuna remarked that the word ''design" challenges and inhibits many of us and attempted to have the people attending the forum, feeling able to reduce their Inhibitions when they left. The three factors Shuna felt inhibit creativity are Fear, Sheet of Blank paper, and not knowing where to start.
Paint the paper with a light colour wash. Abstract, stylise & distort your subject. Do some warm up exercises and draw what you enjoy.
Laura suggested you try to collect as many images of all different sorts that can represent you and express your identity in a purely visual way. Once you have amassed a collection, start putting them on a pinboard and develop a visual repository of all aspects of yourself.
This was extremely well attended as were the forums we held at previous symposiums.
Watch out for the title of the forum which will be held at Wellington Symposium 2009.
